Description

Module Summary: This introductory optional module looks at some of the key issues and competences required within the built environment disciplines in context of quality and project management. The module takes a systems thinking focus, introducing concepts such as complexity through the lens of contemporary construction project management. The module explores the principles of procurement and contract selection and relates this to the strategic objectives of the promoter.

The aims of this module are to:

  • Develop students’ awareness of core project management concepts relevant to the built environment including he project life cycle and the RIBA Plan of Work
  • Introduce students to the commonly used methods of construction project procurement and contract
  • Develop students appreciation of the complexity of construction projects through the application of systems thinking
  • Introduce students to the standard methods of project evaluation
  • Introduce students to the principles of design quality assessment through the application of standard methodologies
  • Develop students awaress of benefits realisation management in the context of building projects
