Description

Health protection addresses public health threats associated with infectious disease and non-infectious environmental hazards and emergency preparedness.Ìý

In this module you will be introduced to the core concepts of infectious disease epidemiology, control, and policy, including outbreak response and surveillance. You will also explore the major health risks associated with non-infectious environmental hazards such as chemicals, radiation and climate change.Ìý

You will be introduced to principles of emergency and pandemic preparedness and response, including humanitarian response, in high-, middle-, and low-income countries.  Finally, you will consider how health inequalities in health protection threats are shaped by global social, political, and economic factors and how to address them through effective public policy.Ìý

The aim of this module is to provide students with an overview of the epidemiology and prevention and control policies for infectious diseases and non-infectious environmental hazards which impact the health of the public.  The module also aims to introduce students to key principles and concepts of emergency and pandemic preparedness and response.Ìý
